hi all -
greetings from seattle…
i’m staying at the beautiful w hotel in seattle on the 26 floor (top floor baby). what can i say, it’s all class in my world.

the view from my room
last night was model call for the hair show – went very well, i was thrilled with the turn out. as people i work with read this blog on occasion, i can’t really comment on one thing, but in a nutshell, i work with someone who is constantly ”not tight” - she is currently taking credit for pulling this model call off, and she deserves a bit of credit, but in all honesty, she didn’t do much. but i suppose at the end of the day, all that matters is the model call went well and the guest artist’s (the hairdressers that will be working on stage with the models) are pleased.
today is all about hair prep, tho’ i do have to do a site visit at a different hotel in seattle for an event i’m planning this fall. after that i hope i get an hour or so to explore a bit of seattle – i’ve never been here and it seems like a cool place. reminds me a bit of san francisco.
regarding thor, or rather james (for that is his name and i can’t figure out an acceptable nick name to call him – yet [thor only works in one context-hehehe]), we had an amazing dinner the other night at azia in minneapolis. great food, hot man; nothing better.
is it wierd that i miss him already? of course, it’s only been 3 weeks, but i gotta say, i dig him (and i’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual). all i know for sure is i’m having fun getting to know him, and that’s all that really matters.
happy kyle!
bad blogger. i can’t believe it’s been 5 days since my last post. when last we left i was getting ready for a date with thor, aka “j” (i’m trying out different things to call him here – i hate “j” and “thor” is just kinda fun, right?) – well that date lasted 37 hours (seriously!)… this guy is f’ing hot as shit/intriquing as hell and i’m having a blast getting to know him.
saturday night we went to see “hot fuzz“, the new flick from the makers of shaun of the dead, the dead-pan british zombie flick from a couple of years ago.

simply put, hot fuzz was a brilliant romp. fun from top-to-bottom. funny in that oh so british way, and over the top as only a hollywood satire can really be.
sunday morning, thor and i joined some of his friends for brunch followed by a trip across the river to the st paul art crawl. after that was time for dinner and cuddling on the couch sunday night and watching movies… the date finally ended monday morning. what a whirlwind.
this week has been a bear at work (the real reason i’ve not updated sr…sl – i’m off to the emerald city (aka seattle) tomorrow morning for a show. our show season is so beyond busy this spring (and you should see the fall calender, it’s insane), and i’ve been knee-deep in meeting after meeting regarding upcoming shows in phoenix, boston, new york and san francisco.
tonight we’re having dinner at my favorite restaurant in minneapolis azia, in honor of the annual dining out for life; a benefit for hiv/aids in minneapolis. great food, great cause, hot man - nothing better right?
oh, and in other news – the hot pic of the blake and chris sandwhich referenced in my previous post has proved to be a fake (not really a big surprise right? but hot-as-shit just the same).

i promise i’ll write more from seattle….
is it bad that i wanna be the middle of a chris and blake sandwich?

ok, seriously, what’s up with this picture…. i’m all for man-on-man, but last time i checked supposedly straight guys did not sit on each other’s laps.
pic courtesy of www.towleroad.com (taken without permission).
thought i was done with the pics from italy eh? not even close – just takin’ a break.
one thing about milan that i was not prepared for was the graffiti. it’s **everywhere**. and i’m not exaggerating, it’s on every building, even the super chic fashionable ones. most of the tags are just bad, armature stuff, but there was a couple of things that really struck a cord.
the first one is in 3 pics – it covered the entire side of a brick wall/fence/divider. the italian when translated (according to the artist’s website) reads: “the future is not more that one than once” (i think google’s free translation service could use some work, or conversely, things just look cooler in italian). the artist, ivan, has stuff all over, and all of it interesting. his website quite cool, take some time to check it out… the dolphinis saying “i am extinguished”. interesting.

the next piece that caught my eye looks a bit like the artist bansky, tho, i have no idea if it is indeed bansky, or just a similar piece. this would make a really interesting, graphic tattoo:

then there was this piece, tagged inside the duomo, one of the most stunning gothic cathedral’s in the world:

ummm, all i gotta say is i’m sure by now andrea and paola’s love has evolved into a bitter, spiteful, tormented affair with a lovely dose of gonorrhea thrown in for good measure (andrea’s a world class tramp, her mobile number is all over milan – she provides quick relief for anyone needing it. oh if only paola had known before he gave his heart to that trollop). all because they just had to deface one of the worlds greatest buildings with their little try for immortality.

time for day’s gentle reminder that tomorrow is earth day folks and all of you need to get off your asses and do something good for your mother (earth that is).
this one is a complete and total n0-brainer, however it’s good to revisit the basics sometimes:
recycle damnit.
about 80% of what we consume is recyclable. visit this site for some great ideas on how to recycle.
eco quote of the day:
“unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better. ut’s not.”
— dr. seuss, from the lorax
p.s., date no. 5 last night. awesome. (ok it was less of a “date” and more of an impromptu stop-over to hang for a bit. nice.

i haven’t commented on the recent shootings at virginia tech as there are far smarter people than i blogging much more insightful things than i could ever share, however, i found this today over at the rut and wanted to share it. it sum’s up my thoughts.
double click please
ok, i know i said i was gonna post a eco-tip everyday, but yesterday was insane, first flying home from north carolina, then dealing with having no internet service (i’m not thrilled with comcast right now), then i had date no. 4. you could say i was a busy lil’ bugger yesterday.
so without firther adiue, here ya go:
-
avoid products that are packaged for single use (i.e., drinks, school lunches, candy, cat and dog food, salad mixings, etc.). instead, buy in bulk and transfer the products to your own reusable containers.
easy right? it’s a no-brainer really. the world does not need single serving containers. all they do is clock up landfills. we act as if we have a backup planet somewhere to go to when we mess this one up enough.

i took the afternoon off today to continue work on my arm tattoo – we connected the wind/lotus/cherry blossom side to the buddhist symbol on my inner arm. it’s a subtle connection (done mainly with wind), but it’s turning out beautifully. next friday, we continue with the cherry blossom branch that weaves in and out of the clouds and potentially start on the buddhist prayer flags that will take root on my elbow joint.

disturbing news too – found out my tattoo artist (trevor at steady tattoo in minneapolis) is going to relocate to l.a. this fall. that means i have a shit load of work to do on my arm before it’s complete.

i’m a major cate blanchett fan. and an even bigger fan of the 1998 film ‘elizabeth‘. as such, you can imagine how thrilled i was to read that you tube had the trailer for the new film ‘elizabeth; the golden age‘ the sequel to the original film.
i was lucky enough to see the trailer before universal pictures pulled it down for copy-write infringement (the fuckers!), and can say this movie looks every bit as epic as the original.

for a snazzy play-by-play description of the trailer go here.
of course some will argue the historical accuracy of the original film (ahem, ray), but i say fuck ‘em (“fuck ‘em ray”) – i don’t look to hollywood for historical accuracy. i look to them for entertainment and the movie is in my top ten and never ceases to entertain me (it’s a visual feast with tremendous spot-on acting by a terrific cast). additionally, let me just state for the record – cate blanchett was robbed of best actress to that waif gweneth paltrow (or as dlisted.com refer’s to her “fishsticks paltrow)”. cate performed rings around that trifle of a performance paltrow threw in. robbed i say!!

oh, in other news, i’m moving. i don’t know when or to where, but i did look at an apartment (6th floor of a 21 story building on the shores of lake calhoun in minneapolis) yesterday, that i’m seriously considering.
while i do suffer a bit of wanderlust, and tend to move every couple of years, i gotta say, this time it’s for a good reason – my current apartment building is going to shit. a change in the other tennent’s is proving concerning, a lack of response to maintenance issues, the neighborhood going to pot, and generally, a sense of it not being “home”.
watch this space – more on this as it develops.

oh, and p.s., the date went exceptionally well.

april 22 is the 37th annual earth day. the company i work for spends a massive amount of money, resources and time celebrating and honoring something called earth month (april), and most who know me well, know that i embrace the term tree-hugger and believe that as citizens of the world, it’s our duty to protect this fragile eco-system we call home.
as such, i’m gonna spend a couple of days throwing out simple, easy things that you all can do to change your little corner of the world and make the earth a safer, cleaner and healthier place.
some history: earth day was started in 1970 by senator gaylord nelson. to learn more about how earth day was conceived and started, check this out.
environmental activism is not the big huge grand ideas and concepts, nor is it radical, life-changing things (usually); it’s really the little things that make the most difference.
things like the above poster. believe it or not, this poster hangs in the stalls of every single bathroom in all of our corporate locations. yup, we’re that kind of earth-geek.
in case you can’t read it, the text says:
“no one wants to go without toilet paper. so, partly-done rolls get replaced with brand-new rolls. you can make a difference by finishing off the little rolls before using the new roll. the maintenance team can then replace empty rolls with full rolls, no one goes without toilet paper. no unused toilet paper is wasted. easy”
it goes on to say:
make a difference at home too.
if every household in the us replaced just one roll of 500 sheet, 2-ply virgin fiber bath tissue with 100% recycled ones we would save:
- 294,000 trees
- 1.2 million cubic feet of landfill space (equal to 1400 full garbage trucks
- 122 million gallons of water (a year’s supply for 3500 families of four)
easy right? kinda a no-brainer. there are a number of excellent companies manufacturing bath tissue with recycled paper. check out: seventh generation or green forest. both of these product lines are carried by most major grocery store lines i’ve found.
today’s quote about the environment:
because we don’t think about future generations, they will never forget us. ~henrik tikkanen
oh.my.god.
grindhouse is the fuckin’ shit. over the top-pulpy-decadent and gratuitously violent. cb and i went to a late showing last night. i was on the edge of my seat many-a-time.
“I want to eat your brains… and gain your knowledge.”
i loved it.
every stinking minute.
from robert rodriquez’ zombie thriller planet terrorstaring the divine rose mcgowen (who i’m completely and totaly in lust with), to tarentino’s sublime chase movie death proof(which starts out much darker and ends up being a glorious chicks-revenge movie ala 1972) featuring rosario dawson, a woman who officially is on my “i would switch for list”.
“this car is 100% death proof, only to get the benefit of it honey, you really need to be sitting in my seat!”
i know the flick is not doing great at the box office, but fuck’em. nobody ever said the american public had taste or could judge great art.
i will so buy this flick on dvd the minute it’s out.
oh, did i mention the music – glorious music – especially the tune chick habit by april march. this is so a soundtrack purchase today!

ok, firstly, i made it to north carolina safely – albeit, an hour late due to plane issues in detroit.
secondly, what the hell is a tar heel? what kind of state mascot is that? and people make fun of minnesota for paul bunyan. paul kicks the shit out of tar heels.

cbpicked me up from the airport and we promptly went to to a durham bulls game (well at least the last 2.5 innings as i was so late). i love outdoor baseball. i love baseball players. i love baseball uniforms. lots of woofy things to look at.
i’ll be with cb until sunday – it’s going to be a very lowkey weekend which i’m looking forward to. i was pleased that he liked his prezzies from italy (and yes, i know i need to post more pics from my trip). i got him a print from the same artist i got mine from. here’s a shot of the one i got cb:

in other news, i was saddened to hear that my good friend kari is resigning her post as director for the red ribbon ride after this july’s 5th annual ride. kari is one of the most amazing/strong/brilliant people i know and it’s a big loss for the ride. however, it’s an amazing opportunity for her. i’m very proud of her.
on sunday, i’ll leave cb’s house and move to a hotel – i’m helping one of our cosmetology schools with a earth day event early next week.
speaking of earth day- you do know that april 22 is earth day right? what have you done for the planet lately?
